Content Management Systems
Given the ever-changing, fast-paced business environment we live in today, it is highly probable that the content of your Website will need to updated on a regular basis, whether it be monthly, weekly, or even daily. Content Management Systems (CMS) were created to allow companies to update their Websites without the assistance of a third party. This application ensures that visitors to your site, including current and prospective customers, investors, and job seekers, are receiving the most timely and accurate information regarding your company, its services, products, and opportunities.
CMS is used to manage components of a Web site with a variety of functions including:
- Content editing
- Calendar updates
- Uploading and downloading electronic files, images, video based media, and audio files
MBD creates custom Web-based CMS applications that are designed to fit each
client's unique content management requirements.
Our CMS application operates behind the scenes and is only accessible to administrators and authorized employees. By using the administration control panel, the client is able to gain access to the CMS database. Each client is able to obtain an unlimited number of functions, and is given the capability to organize these functions. The CMS also gives the client the ability to grant access to other users.
The Development Process
Before development of a custom Web-based CMS application can begin, we conduct an in depth assessment of our client's content management requirements, understanding of CMS applications, and training needs. From there, we create a blueprint for the development of the CMS application, including the design elements and required functions.
CMS Workflow
MBD’s CMS also assists in organizing and streamlining workflow, to enable the administrator to control the content posted on the Websiite. By offering control of the organization of the Website, the administrator can increase the quality of the information seen by visitors.
Workflow management capabilities:
- Migrate and develop documents, videos and other visuals used via the internet
- Build email alert functions which are produced automatically when a user creates or makes changes to documents
- Send to preview prior to publishing
- Document creator, document modifier
- Ability to have users categorize functions
- Ability to create content types and categories
Archiving
Archiving is available for MBD’s CMS applications. Documents can be filed in one of a variety of defined fields within the CMS, eg, briefing paper, calendar updates, video files etc. A timeframe for deletion or review can be established based on category or item.
CMS training
While MBD’s custom CMS is user-friendly and self-navigable, we realize that training may be necessary for those users who have little or no experience with CMS applications, which is why there is an option to integrate a training function into the CMS application. This training function allows clients to navigate the software by creating, editing and publishing files, and creating CMS directories and navigational functions, without contaminating the public Web site. This component is deleted nightly to enable free space that can be used for filenames and prevent CMS users from permanently saving documents in this area.
